Hey everyone,

Winter is treating me alright. I have an awesome job working at the International Composting Corporation plant in my home town of Nanaimo on Vancouver island. I feel good about working there because I am giving back to the environment we all take so much from. The other perk to this job is that I have a shovel in my hand at all times and there is plenty of labour. Im in the best shape I have ever been in. I get to consider work my 40h a week gym.

After work I have been digging hard on my jumps. I have every day this week for the hour of light I can get in. Weekends are nothing but tricks around here, going to the Sand Pits to learn all sorts of trickery for this season's Slopestyle Contests. Backflips are DIALED and Tail-whips are getting there. I have 360 variations coming out the ying yang and am having the most fun I have ever had doing tricks.

Happy Hanukkah everyone,

I have been celebrating with my friends at home in Nanaimo and teaching them about my culture a little. I injured my ankle at work recently keeping me off the bike. It sucks because the weather has been so nice here on Vancouver Island.

Today I worked on the jumps my room mate and I have built. I spent time rebuilding a burm after the original set. After the corner the plan is to build a size LARGE set of two jumps. One step at a time and now the burm is big enough to help you carry speed into the future Back Set.

what up! im back yesterday was the first time ive road in a month it gave me a don ready. haha. i landed a couple new tricks that im quite stoked on and found some amazing new spots. one of them is a kids playground with a giant concrete boat that looks to be comming out of the ground or titanic style sinking. but its got a mad wallride on the sid of it. and i found a dozen rails at newwest's boardwalk thang. but thats all for now boys i,ll try to blog in the next few days with some pics if it everstops raining!!!!!!

Hey guys, just got off work and sorry I couldn't get it off to help at kbr, but I just hit up Rio with a couple friends and it was amazing (even with all the puddles and slippery spots). My friend got a flat halfway through, but it was still killer. I didn't get to make it up to Sun Peaks this weekend and I won't be able to make it next weekend, so I won't be able to pay off my pass, but I got quite a few times in. Im back from my trip. We hit Goatstyle then Claymore Challenge and was in the finals. Onto Ray's Indoor and across to Crankworx colorado. It was lame but then we hit the first ever RedBull Wilson Woods Jam and had a blast. We rested in Utah and rode Aitken and Cody Gessel's trails before heading to Transition Bikes Dealer Days... WIZARD status! Transition is ALWAYS a good time. We couldn't WAIT to get home to Canada, even just for just a Double Double and a dozen Timbits. I has stoked snaking a million runs at the Camel Back jump Jam during Crankworx 2010. I relearned no foot cans... nice.

Getting back home to Kamloops felt refreshing. Back to a normal routine. A little rest, that I feel like I'm still catching up on. Im riding pretty well every day, with already some cool adventures. Can't wait for the rest of the summer, especial soon with a Big bike?

Skye Schillhammer and I met on our rode trip to Ranchstyle in Grand Junction Colorado. Skye flew and I traveled in the Transition van with Mike Metzger, Casey Groves and Joe Perrizo of Atom Lab. We met up and right away were Bros'. We had so much fun in Colorado, but havnt been able to run into each other since then. I cant wait to go visit him where he's from in Bellingham before he ships off to Spokane in Central Washington for school. Awesome rider, awesome dude... can flip anything!

I still have yet to meet Ben White face to face. Although we found eachother when one of us was creeping Facebook for riding friends. He is a filmer and skier, I think. Im excited to get together with him to produce some gnarly media projects!

Cam Zink impressed the world this year. Finishing in solid position all year long, at the Big Show, Crankworx Whistler, he pulls out a win. The contest was up for grabs when favorites Darren Berrecloth and Brandon Semenuk both fell and were injured in their first runs. Cam though, had an amazing run including flawless 360s off the big drops and a huge front flip over the biggest jump on course.

Congrats to Cam, your an inspiration to us all...

I tell you, when you move to some shitty town with the shittiest skatepark, you get pretty effing bored. :( I'm in Quesnel visiting my Mom and the skate park SUCKKKSSS. :( All the transitions are like obtuse angles, and the 1 quarter is slanted at the top. I've met a couple rad guys who make due with what they've got, and they're pretty cool to ride with. I'm moving to Fort Mcmurray tomorrow to make money for University, and the skatepark looks pretty cool there, so I'm kind of stoked about that. Anyways, miss you guys, and I hope you're all progressing fast! I saw the Whistler video and that looked like a good ol' time. Have a good one guys,

Today and also last night Colten and I went on an amazing street seshion, we found the sickest spots kamloops has to offer, I footjam just as much stuff Colten icepicks. I love it, It's crazy when u ride with to totally different styled riders. You end up just feeding off eachother for more and more tricks and killer lines. Hey taboo yesterday was soo gbnar i got turn- down, like no probmlem. also yesterday ii went to street ride TRU, that place is sooooo fun. anyways there was this ledge that was about 31/2 feet up. for some strange reason i wanted to see how hi i can hop so i road up to it and bam, what do you know i did it no problem. i guess it's nice haveing long legs after all. next trick im goin for is bar spin. hopfuly when i go to whistler ill try it there.

Thanks again for the place to stay last night Mike.

It was another awesome trip down. Im really really excited about being able to learn 360 tucks again. I like the trick jump you guys have. Its the perfect small jump to do "the first one" on, for any trick! Our step-ups in Kamloops are all great... but huge compared to yours.

My friend found a spot to dig. We know they wont last long, so we are gona dig fast then RIDE THE HECK out of them. I want to learn all my tricks there while the lips are soft, and dial them as the lips get hard between now and Goat Style. Saturday we leave for whistler, Sunday ride Foam for 6 hours. I GOT TRICKS TO LEARN!

Im really getting excited for my trip with Demon Dirt. I think Nick wants me to be one of his main riders, even offering me a possible trip to Japan next year. Its my dream to be one of his full MTB riders, and also to be yours at Transition. I have one month until goat style where I want top 5 more than anything in the world. Then off to Claymore, Nike 6.0 DewTour BMX (not to ride,) Crankworx Colorado, your Dealer Days then finish at Crankworx Whis' that hopefully I have been able to qualify for. I talked to Kevin and just let him know about my trip. He asked if I was the only Tranny rider. He was stoked on that.

So today was one of those days where no matter how hard you try you just cant do your favorite tricks... downer i know.... however Tyler and I had a pretty sick day none the less. My name is Mike Hartt as most of you know. I moved to Kamloops BC from Prince George in July 09. Pretty much the day after i got in town i was in Taboo and met Ben Glassen ... Pretty good start to a new city IMO! I moved here for work to begin with but as life throws you one way it can quickly throw you another. Now im here biking everyday and most nights I can. May long; oh what a great weekend it was with fellow shop rider/employee MR. BEN GLASSEN. It all started on thursday May 20th 2010, I showed up at the shop with ben on thursday morning to help get the bikes ready for the second bc cup race in Nanaimo B.C. Everything was going good in the morning up until about 10 minutes after we left when we thought what was a can or something on the highway which we had ran over. We didnt think anything of it until we took a PEE break and checked the bikes. Bam the trip started going downhill, because of the way we put our bikes on the bike rack my tire was sitting in front of the exhaust and had popped and melted. We continued on to Nanaimo and our luck dropped some more. we had missed the ferry ticket sales by barely 2 minutes. Next thing we knew we found ourselves in hosreshoe bay village area waiting for 2 hours for the next ferry. We got on the ferry and started to scope seats to sit and sleep in as we were both very tired from the drive down. Bens father had came to pick us up at duke point because we decided to walk on the ferry because it was cheaper and left us more money for the trip. Bens parents are very very nice and great to be around! Being as young as Ben and I are we had a couple of late nights in a row and made the horrible choice of going to Parksville B.C. the night before the race. Just to put this in here we did remain sober the entire weekend! We got up in time to go prep for the race; the course was very muddy as it had rained. Every corner was very slick but still managed to stay up and keep the rubber down! Ben and I didn't podium in our categories but still cracked the top 5 as Ben finished 4th and i finished 5th which is still decent! The next couple of days we rode our bikes so hard that my legs didn't want to pedal anymore. Next thing we new the long weekend was over and we found ourselves on the ferry crossing the straight once again. We arrived back in kamloops around 10 o'clock and I was releaved to sleep in my own bed again after a long 4 days! All in all the weekend was very good, I met some very nice and very interesting people. I think i can say this for both Ben and I that we both learned a lot of new thing about each other and broadened our friendship.

I was kickin it with Dustin and a little boy that every one was calling bubba. Lots of grinding soooo many riders tight day. Tyler was out riding other peoples bikes and boards haha. almost perfect day till right at the end i cross barred bustin a slider and got done. Ankle is mangled a bit. Still couldnt waste the oppertunity to sesh some hometown street. Dangerously tight ankle brace = fire hydrant bunny hops and phat plastic bench sesh with an old friend that hasnt road in months. So, I haven't posted on the blog in a while because I've been all over the place and haven't been riding very often... In the past two weeks I've moved from Kamloops, to the Sunshine Coast, and back to Salmon Arm. And then drove down to Vancouver for this passed weekend to do some shit. While in Vancouver, I sold my mountain bike, and the next day bought a BMX my buddy Zach Jewell had built up. It's a 21" Fit Eddie frame with Odyssey wheels, Mutiny bars Fit stem and seat and Animal tires. Pretty effing stoked. Anyway, Ben, Murray, Tyler, Coltin and I all met up in Salmon Arm on Monday for a nice sesh. At about 3 we all bailed out of SA to go to Sicamous and play in Corbin Selfe's foam pit. Murray and Tyler tried their very first backflips and dialed them, Ben was working on getting back into the rythem of flips, and Corbin was just throwing down errywhere, but I mean, it is his foam pit. We spent a fair bit of time making everything smooth as the down ramp and run in were pretty sketchy. Hopefully Corbin ends up rebuilding that stuff this weekend and we can all go back for an ever better sesh. After the pit, we headed over to the Sicamous skatepark, and no matter how long I've been away from it, it's still boring as fuck. In the end of the day, Murray ended up with backflips and inverts, Tyler with flips and almost had three sixty one foot cans, Ben had flips dialed beans, and I had tailwhips almost in my pocket and flips pretty dialed as well. I also got THE worst wide beater tan, HAHA. I took it off and it looked like I still had one on. SO brutal. But, all in all, it was a very good day. You can see all the pictures we got from the day here. There were some pretty good ones.

wow sweet weekend
its started out a normal Friday of riding the ranch then my tyre burst so i went to the shop fixed it
then ben strolls in and asks if i want to ride Jameson out past westside
and obviously i said yes and went riding with garret hunter and two other guys
jameson was one of the most fun trails i have road in awhile so fast and steep then fast and a little bit technical
then on saturday i went to harper with garret eric and braden witch was pretty damn good after two run of the mountain garret decided to call it a day as he wasnt feeling it
so the rest of us went up and did one more run
bad idea
as i was coming down i went a diffrent route and there was a tiny wooden bridge to ride over and my front end slid out and i went over the bars in to a tree :O owww
after that i straightened my rotor and road down then 20meters before the end i moved to the side to let the cafe boys past and my front tyre got stuck in a tree i went straight over the bars again bent my rim put a stick through the tyre and hurt my back lol
wich really sucked as i was going to race because garret didnt want to

i fixeed my my bike to some exstent and road with one brake
decided im not to good at this and went and built a sweet line down the steep hill at the bottom of the ranch, then road it and cruckkkkkkkkk
there gose my frame cracked it straight through :(

so overall it was shitty
but but hopefully i get a new bike :D

He pulled in and I introduced my self and offered to help him set up his tent because Casey said he was a super rad dude. Casey and Nick had met the week before at Sea Otter where Nick sold out of all his demo Jeans

with everyone loving them so much. The only samples I could even look at were the ones on Casey's big buttttt!

Hey Guys

me and my buddies are building on some jumps near where I live in Switzerland.

Its a line with a step up a small hip a step down and a big sender,....this time i learned from you guys in canada so the dimensions of the jumps are "Kamloops approved" I think ;-)

To much rain in the last days over here so the soil is to wet to build, but as soon as it gets better we gonna finish them. I'll keep you posted about our activities and hopefully soon some riding pictures.

yesterday TYler and i went to prince goerge for a killer bike jam, i got my new pleg, fork and pedals on Bens frame. But hey it's better then no frame right? Anywho there was some killer riders there i tothpicked up a rail and won my self a sick macneil hat that randomly matches ma bike. I got some sweet stickers and dvd too for supermaning and trying a grizz air tire grab. boy those thinks are hard. Tyler won him self a pear of Fit purple pedals for hoping up a huge ledge into manual, he also got lots of stickers and he bought a used Fit CHASE HAWK frame from one of the pros there cause he got a neew one. lucky kid. We met some sweet people that r goin to come ride with us in kamloops in the laterness of may, Well that was Tyler and my weekend. was it worth it?? YYYYYYYYYAAAAA, DUH!

Race the Ranch was a pretty good day. After crashing in 3 out of 5 practice runs (on the same spot), I finally got it right during the race. I came 18th out of 34 (not amazing) with a few mistakes , but at least I didn't crash. After searching around I found a nice vid of the race on pink bike (featuring me crashing). Cheak it out.

RACE THE RANCH!

April 24 and 25 as many already know was the the first BC Cup race of the season! YAY KAMLOOPS!!!! The 24th was practise day for the all the riders and what i thought was gonna be a nice day turned into a rain, snow and hail storm; not very fun i might add as it was very cold! All the riders toughed it out and had great practice runs and were all stoked for the race the next day. We were all very impressed with new course that Wayne Parsons made possible for us to ride substituting out the bomb hole that we had last year!!! Thanks Wayne! So sunday rolls around the next day and i can tell you right now I was a bit nervous about the race as it pretty gnarly. The time came for me to do my on and only race run! 5,4,3,2,1 i was off the line making my way through the course. I didn't feel very fast as i made a couple mistakes but kept it together till the finish line. As i crossed the line the time of my run was shouted out over the p.a. system. Taking over first place with the fastest time of the day local rider brayden scott with a time of 2:07:07. That made my day as I held on to first place out of 35 riders. The last weekend was a great one and cant wait to hit up the Nanaimo Race!

Ranchstyle Colorado Day 2

We are in Colorado and stayed the night at a Hotel Last night after Skye showed up from the Airport. Our drive was long, but yesterday we arrived in the morning and the rest of the day was awesome.

Getting here ended up taking about 22 hours. Mike drove most of the way. I had two hour long naps Wednesday evening before it had even gotten dark. In Salt Lake City about 3:30am Mike handed the wheel over to me and I started driving with my co-driver Joe at my side while Mike and Casey went to sleep. Just outside Salt Lake was the gnarlyest mountain pass... then it started snowing... then it covered the road and I couldnt see more than 10 feet ahead of me, and if i put the high beams on, 10 feet went to 3 feet. It was stressful, but when I made it out of the mountains the sun started coming up revealing the most BEAUTIFUL landscape ever through Utah, and I was the only one to see it because everyone else was asleep.

I drove us into Grand Junction where we got breakfast and went to the shop sponsoring the event, Grass Roots. Then we headed up to the course. I fell asleep on the way considering I hadn't slept more than 2 hours in the past 24.

We got to the Ranch and Casey had a shovel in his hand before I even woke up. There was two inches of snow on the course that morning that had mostly melted off. There was still snow on the wood ramps. I was walking up the course, still half asleep when SMACK! The little brat Casey Groves pitched a snowball directly to my head about 50 feet. I pretty well didnt know what had happened, I was too tired.

I went back to sleep for another hour and then got up to ride. We rode this little step up that was later rebuild after we met up with Canadians Eric Lawww... (i cant spell his name) and Graham Agassiz. We rode the course a little, then I over shot a jump and hurt my sprained thumb. I took a breather to clean the van and munch out on snacks. I was about to take a nap when in roles Evan Gurthrie! I was super excited to see him and give him his custom Taboo Jersey. We walked the course and then went over to the step up that was being totally rebuilt way bigger and way better. We got on our bikes to join a big stepup session that was so much fun. After that we headed over to the course and started riding through all the sweet stunt.

We found a hotel and then had dinner and watched Jeepers Creepers till bed time.

Ben's Trip Blog update.

Somewhere in Idaho

The trip so far has been pretty fun and uneventful for the most part. I am currently in a bus with three awesome dudes that I have always looked up to in the cycling world on our way to Grand Junction Colorado for an event called Ranchstyle.

Youngest on the trip and fellow Canadian is Kelowna native Casey Groves. For the past few years this short, buff little bra’ has been KILLING it on the slopestyle and dirtjump scene with jaw dropping combo tricks. This year he has gone full pro riding for companies like Transition bikes, Fox shocks, Spy Optics and Pinkbike.com. His so-called “ bag of tricks” could possibly be the biggest in the world including his Crankworx Best Trick 2008 Quadruple No-Foot-Can.

Joe Perrizo from Spokane Washington rides for Atomlab and is a bike shop worker same as me! He is mild mannered but destroys on his Hardtail dirt jump bike doing backflips over everything and right now holds the unofficial world record for the furthest backflip on a bike. He started as a trials rider but shreds skateparks and jumps with unmistakable style and flair… witch is incidentally a trick he has on LOCKDOWN!

Last but not least is Mike Medzger, and no he doesn’t ride FMX, but non the less can kill it on a bike and is probably one of the nicest people you will ever encounter. He stands taller than the trees but is cuddly and bubbly like a toddler. I met him when I was on my first trip to Kamloops in 2007 just after the MTB movie Stripped came out where his part was by far my favorite. Today he owns a freshly self renovated and beautiful home with his girlfriend Shannon and puppy Pit Bull Frankie. He has ridden and worked for Transition for some time now and he is in charge of my sponsorship.

We are in a huge white Chevy van with BIG blue Transition logos all over it. Her name, Thunder Shark. We are driving strait through from Ferndale Washington to Grand Junction Colorado. So far all has gone well except for a minor breakdown. All of a sudden we see a bunch of smoke pouring out of the back of the Van. We pull over and Casey and I dive under to investigate. What we find is a dipstick. What the heck is a dip stick doing sticking out off the bottom of the van! It was the transmission fluid dipstick and what had happened was the two-piece metal guide tube to get the dipstick from the top of the engine to the transmission had come apart. With a little wiggling from me up top and a little skin burning on Casey’s arm down bottom it was back together and we were back on the road.

So lately my work has been crazzzzyy, way too much stuff to do and a trip to idaho = no riding for me. So tonight when my neighbor wanted to go for a ride at 7 I jumped on the chance. We tossed around the idea of going to rio but since it was already pretty late decided to just go up to Knustford, pretty tame trail but really fast and flowy right? WRONG. I guess the powers that be decided to clear out all the beetle kill, so the best parts of the trail were turned into a road for skidders and feller bunchers, slash everywhere. Bummer.

Today I got my new stuff for my baby which is also know as my bike. I got the new fitbikeco. Shiv for which ways 1.8 pound, Odyssey gold pedals and last but not least white plegs. It's gonna be almost a whole new set up of lightness but i think i can handle it haha. ?Brad said my bike frame will be in by Monday or Tuesday hopefully Monday so i can ride my new set up Tuesday thought well that's all so peace.

The other day I went to the skate park with my friend Morgan to go ride some bikes. Jake was there along with a few other guys and Jake's friend Ashli who also had a camera. I saw she was taking photos and started talking to her about cameras and stuff and noticed she had a telephoto lens. MMMMMMMM. =] She saw how stoked I was about it and let me use it for a while. I was literally running around the park like a little kid with a new toy. Jakes was amped on how amped I was and started throwing down some gnar stuff. At the end of the day I ended up with some pretty sick photos. Chem them out here. They start third picture in on page 9. Anyways, it's late and I gotta be up early tomorrow to drive to Salmon Arm and back twice.... Hope to see Ben and James there! S'later guys,
